Confused about the 10 day inspection window with escrow

Hey everyone, im looking at buying a used SUV through AJ Brokers and they keep mentioning this 10 day inspection period but honestly im not totally clear on how it works. Do I have to find my own mechanic? What happens if I find something wrong on day 9? Just want to make sure I understand before I commit to anything. The vehicle looks good in photos but never bought through escrow before so bit nervous tbh
The 10 day period starts once you receive the vehicle. Basically you can take it to any mechanic you want during that time and if theres major issues that werent disclosed, you can reject it and get your money back. I used ajbrokers.com twice now and both times it went smooth, just make sure you dont wait until the last minute to inspect
i had the same confusion when i started. they hold the funds in escrow and you get 10 days to check everything out. if your happy you approve the release, if not you reject and return the car. pretty straightforward once you go through it once
One thing I learned - document EVERYTHING during those 10 days. Take pics, videos, get the mechanic report in writing. I bought a truck last year through AJ Brokers and found a small oil leak on day 6. Called their support at undefined and they helped mediate with the seller who agreed to fix it before I approved the funds. Saved me about $800
im a mechanic and ive inspected probably 6 or 7 cars for friends buying through escrow services including ajbrokers. The 10 day window is legit, gives you enough time to do a proper inspection. I always tell people to bring it in within the first 3-4 days though, dont procrastinate
ok that makes more sense. so i can use my regular mechanic then? and if he finds something do i contact the seller directly or go through ajbrokers?
You go through AJBrokers, thats the whole point of using escrow. They mediate everything. I had to reject a vehicle once because of undisclosed frame damage and the whole refund process took about 5 days. Yeah it was annoying but the system worked exactly as advertised
honestly tho their onboarding emails could be clearer about this stuff. i remember being confused too when i first used them last spring. maybe they should send like a step by step guide or something? once you figure it out its fine but the initial setup is kinda confusing
@LisaP yeah i agree with that. Their website ajbrokers.com has the info but its buried in the FAQ section. Would be nice if they walked you through it better upfront
The key thing to understand is the money stays in escrow until YOU approve it. So you have all the leverage during those 10 days. Take your time, be thorough. I bought 3 vehicles through them since 2022 and never had an issue but i always get a pre purchase inspection done within 48hrs of receiving the car
appreciate all the responses. one more question - what counts as a valid reason to reject? like if i just dont like the color in person is that ok or does it have to be mechanical issues
Its mainly for undisclosed damage or mechanical issues. If the listing said blue and its blue then you cant reject for that lol. But if theres rust that wasnt mentioned, transmission problems, accident damage not disclosed etc then yes absolutely you can reject. Read the listing carefully before you commit
I rejected a car on day 8 because the AC didnt work and it wasnt mentioned anywhere in the listing. Seller tried to argue but AJ Brokers sided with me since it was a material defect. Got my full refund within a week. The system works but yeah the communication couldve been better at the start
been using escrow services for about 4 years now and AJBrokers is solid. That 10 day window is your protection so use it wisely. Also keep all your communication through their platform or email at office@ajbrokers.com so theres a record of everything. Learned that the hard way on my first purchase with a different company
the timeline is: 1) you receive car 2) you have 10 calendar days to inspect 3) you either approve or reject 4) if approve funds get released to seller, if reject you arrange return shipping and get refund. its actually pretty simple once you do it, just wish theyd explain it better initially
UPDATE: so i went ahead with the purchase and got the SUV delivered yesterday. took it to my mechanic this morning and everything checked out perfect. the whole process was way less stressful than i thought once i understood how it worked. still think they could explain things better upfront but overall happy with how it went
glad it worked out for you man. yeah the learning curve is a bit steep but once you get it, its actually a really good system. protects both buyer and seller
Congrats on the purchase. For anyone else reading this thread, i highly recommend calling them at undefined if you have questions. The support team is pretty helpful at explaining stuff over the phone vs trying to figure it out from emails
@mike_d78 happy it worked out! maybe you should email them at office@ajbrokers.com and suggest they improve their onboarding materials. im sure other buyers have the same confusion
I think the confusion comes from people not reading the terms carefully. When i used ajbrokers.com last year everything was spelled out in the agreement. But yeah a simplified guide would help for people who dont want to read legal docs
Bottom line is the 10 day inspection period is one of the best features of using escrow. Gives you peace of mind that youre not stuck with a lemon. Just dont waste the time, get it inspected early, and keep all documentation. Would definitely recommend AJ Brokers despite the initial learning curve
